Kore Kitchen Joins LA Compost

It is important not only to care about the inner environment of your body, but the outer environment that we all live in as well. A large amount of garbage is produced by each one of us on a daily basis, and most of it happens to be food scraps from the kitchen. When sent to the landfill, rotting food produces methane gas which is more harmful than your car exhaust. Composting on the other hand, allows you to divert material going directly into the landfill, and gives it back to the Earth to digest which turns it into a nutrient-rich soil to grow new food.

We are proud to announce that we have joined LA Compost to start composting the food scraps from our kitchen! LA Compost currently has 8 hubs around LA, which allow you to drop off food scraps and get educated on the wonderful world of composting. We send our compostable materials from the kitchen to one of their hubs that is less than a mile away. In fact, it's a 5 minute drive from our kitchen. Composting at a community level like this has an even lower impact on the environment and is more beneficial for everyone. Most city composts (the green bin) will drive the compostable materials outside of the city limits and bring it back in to be sold. This leaves a much larger carbon footprint, and a lot of the green bins are contaminated with other non-compostable or toxic items. At home composting, or community composting is the best way to go.

We were so inspired by LA Composts hub in the Elysian Valley Community Garden, we even purchased a garden plot for Kore Kitchen where we can grow vegetables and herbs for your meals, using our composted soil. It doesn't get more local, organic, or earth friendly than that!

The Earth is home to everyone, so we all have a responsibility towards the well being of our planet. We hope this inspires you to lower your impact and re-think your trash.
